New TQT and Guided Learning for SL1

We have decided to change the Total Qualification Time and the associated Guided Learning time (i.e. tutored time) following the annual review of feedback on actual delivery time experienced by all Centres and all qualifications.

The following illustrates the change. Although minor, it gives a more accurate reflection of the delivery time experience by Centres. The new TQT will be introduced on 1st September 2018. You may want to change your delivery to reflect the hours below but you are not required to if your currently delivery allows you to deliver the course effectively.

New printed Learner Evidence Records to include focus on employability skills

Qualifications impacted:

SL1, SL2/CSL2 and HSL3
SCQF SL4, SL5/CSL5 and HSL6 in Scotland
When from:    August 2018

We have been hard at work refreshing our printed Learner Evidence Records (LERs). This is for two main reasons:

  1. To take on board the feedback many of you have given us.
  2. To increase focus on the employability and life skills that your learners will develop through the course

The new layout, content and focus on employability skills will be explained in more detail in the Tutor Resources and at Tutor Training.

There are five key employability that learners will need to reflect on. They are:

  •          Communication
  •          Self-belief
  •          Teamwork
  •          Self-management
  •          Problem solving

Register your course with learner numbers before September 2018 to get printed LERs as part of your registration fees. To take advantage of this offer get in touch with us to discuss.

Be part of our Employability Skills Panel

A focus for us over the next 12 months is to make sure our work on recognising employability skills works in practice. The new LERs (mentioned above) is the first step but there is a lot more we want to offer you and your learners.

We will be piloting new, exciting courses from September to December this year. We need your expertise to make sure that these courses are fit for purpose.

How might you be able to help bring expertise?

  1.     Pilot a short, elearning course with a cohort of learners at your Centre
  2.     Be part of an Employability Skills panel – you will be able to add value to the work that we are doing

If you are interested, please email contact@sportsleaders.org and someone will be in touch with more details.

Exciting new partnership with Les Mills

Sports Leaders UK would like you make you aware of an exciting new partnership we have developed with Les Mills, the international fitness organisation who created BODYPUMP™ and BODYATTACK™, amongst many other exercise to music classes. Our new partnership includes the introduction of online training for young people to become BORN TO MOVE™ Activators. The new opportunity includes an annual license to the BORN TO MOVE™ Virtual app and registration for up to 12 of your learners to undertake the Activator training. This would be a fantastic next step for your young leaders who might be interested in a career within the fitness industry, coaching or teaching. This product will be available through LEAP in the coming weeks.

SLQ Awarding Organisation known as name

Over the next academic year you may notice a small change to learner certificates. Courses running from 1st August will receive certificates under a new ‘known as’ name of SLQ. Sports Leaders UK is making this change with OfQual, CCEA, and Qualifications Wales* so that our learner certificates more appropriately represent the wider range of leadership qualifications and awards that learners undertake.

What does this mean for you and your learners?

Firstly, we are still trading as Sports Leaders UK and all our contact details will remain the same for your centre.

The Sports Leaders UK brand will remain on all sport-based leadership qualifications.

Learners qualification titles on their certificate will change. For example, instead of the current title of ‘Sports Leaders UK Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership’, after the 1st August 2018, this qualification title will be certificated as ‘SLQ Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership’.

For any non-sport-based leadership qualifications such as those included in our Leadership Skills Programme, these will be awarded and certificated under the SLQ brand.

Finally, this minor regulatory change should not affect the service you receive in any way, altering the regulated known as name that appears on certificates to SLQ is intended to help promote greater recognition of the life-long leadership skills gained by the young people on your courses and will be supported by further promotional activity with employers and policy-makers.

We look forward to continuing our leadership journey with you and please do get in contact if you wish to discuss further, Richard Norman, Chief Executive, contact@sportsleaders.org.

* This change will not affect any SCQF credit rated qualifications.
